Youth News

The current Youth Leaders for SLDA are Sue Jones and Ian Wilding

For those of you who maybe didn’t come out with us last year and are new to camping and not sure what the Youth Test is - here is a brief summary.

The senior youth test is made up of several modules - to pass you must pass all of them.

  They include:

  • Map Reading
  • Use of a compass
  • First Aid
  • Packing your kit
  • Cooking for yourself
  • Safe use of cooking stoves
  • Pitching and breaking camp.

Your test weekend - you are expected to totally look after yourself from start to finish. Its good fun and also looks good on your CV when you leave school - gives you something to talk about at interviews, which could put you above your competitors.

Being a member of the Youth is not all about taking your test though - as most of you know its great fun also taking part in competitions at various events throughout the year, including the Regional Meet, where we will again be entering Football, Volleyball and Netball teams, The National Volleyball Meet and of course the National Youth Rally - as well as running your own meet towards the end of the year to raise youth funds.

If there is anything else you would like to do throughout the year - then please let us know - we’ll see what we can do.
